Let's look into a case study at the supplier chain of Japanese Pokemon Booster Box and stores in the United States acquire whole sale rates from Japan.

Everyday stores in major metros in Japan like Amtaf in Osaka will take in hundreds of Pokémon and One Piece booster boxes from the community. Amtaf does this by reaching out to the community and posting a wanted list on their twitter account daily.

The best way to describe their daily operations is like a casino. They have multiple tellers working the counter where they will accept booster boxes from the community in exchange for cash.

These sellers will arrive in the store with anywhere from a few booster boxes to full crates of booster boxes that they have acquired.

Each individual seller has a profile with the store. Similar to what we do here at the Pacific Card Exchange. They do this to track the sellers history and make sure they are selling real booster boxes. If they were to sell a fraud or resealed box, the store now has a way to track down the seller down and share their reputation to the community in Osaka.

When the seller arrives at the counter they will write their username on a sticky note and proceed with their cash out.

The teller will enter this username into a software intake form, look up each booster box and create an order for the seller. On the spot the store will look up their daily price list and total the seller's entire order. These order can often be over ¥100,000. The teller will print a receipt and tell the seller to move counter down the counter.

Here the shop manager will handle the payout. Weekly the shop will stop by the bank and retrieve cash for the payout. The store themselves will have the same equipment and bank or casino would have to process efficient payout. The sellers will then walk out of the store with cash in hand.

As the buyer is being cashed out, another worker at the store will organize all the intake booster boxes. At the back of the store you will see carts full of booster boxes. The business partner will label each of the boxes with a QR tracking sticker before placing into the crates.

There are about 6 to 8 crates at the back of the store each holding about 100-200 boxes each.

In a span about an hour the store was nonstop busy, during the afternoon on a Saturday. In the hour they process over 40 customers, all directly paying them out in cash.

It was a very organized and systematic operation that the entire team was running. It was amazing to peel back the layer on the secondary market and discover exactly how these sellers operate and scale their business.
